Welcome to the Evans-Tibbs Archive Database!

The Evans-Tibbs Archive Database is a resource for searching artists of the African diaspora represented in the National Gallery of Art Library's Evans-Tibbs Archive, and related art information. The database is built on Wikibase.cloud, a free, cloud-based Linked Data platform, developed by Wikimedia_Deutschland(Wikimedia.de). With Wikibase.cloud, we liberate data from silos and connect various types of information including identifiers, socio-demographic data, art-related data, external databases, and reference resources. Currently, 3,354 editable and queriable data items and pages are available in our growing database.

Search Tips

  • Search by keyword : type keyword in the search window located in the upper right corner. You can use the names of artists or organisations, titles of artwork or exhibitions, or titles of publications.
  • Search by item page : click 'Special pages' on the left menu, select 'List of pages: All pages', click 'item' in the namespace dropdown menu and click 'Go.' You will see the list of all item pages by item label and identifier(QID).
  • Search by QID : QID is a unique identifier assigned by Wikibase.cloud to each item in the database. If you know a QID for your item (available in the item pages), type the QID in the search window.
  • Search by query : you can search and retrieve data by Wikibase queries, which use a standard SPARQL query language and protocol for the Linked Open Data. Some query examples are available here.
